So far, i can only show the square i had done for *my* Exquisite Corpse. The whole completed piece was mailed by Vero, on time, back to me, but has to be forwarded from my old address, and it still hasn't arrived.......
My theme was "rust", a favourite topic, colour and "style" that i find more and more to explore about :}
My background fabric was a semi rusted and dyed cotton. I burnt holes and edges in deep green, black, blue and copper organza, stitching them in a loose rust inspired design. Some edges encroaching on the next squares were left loose. On top of these i appliqued torn pieces of painted, bubbled cellophane to simulate older rusted areas. I also cut areas of the background out, placing fabrics underneath and stitching to create the look of rusted holes.
I then created a "bar" that stretched across the two main pieces, slightly padding it for a relief effect, and attaching it with washers and a nut, and some beads.
I cut a hole, painted a piece with the eye and did a reverse applique with it under the hole. From the cutout piece i created a pivoting piece with a cardstock stiffener, more of the cello, sheers and beading, and a found metal object. It was attached with a bead that allows the whole to swivel left or right to reveal the eye. (Since this piece, i have started using actual metal pieces, like old gasket metal or rusted can lids, for the "door", absolutely fascinating and satisfying :})
"Rust Never Sleeps" has become a "mini-series" since, with two other pieces resulting, so far!
